Keynote at STOLT’s 50th Anniversary

25 September 2026

Our PhD candidate Dario Strangis was invited to give a keynote at the 50th anniversary celebration of STOLT, the Norwegian association for people who stutter and clutter, held in Bergen from September 11–13, 2026.

In his presentation, “Stuttering and Cluttering: What Lived Experience Can Teach Us”, Dario explored what can be learned by listening to how people who stutter and clutter experience and describe their own speech. Drawing on research and lived experience, the talk considered how self-reported perspectives can contribute to our understanding of stuttering and cluttering, with particular attention to speech awareness and self-monitoring, perceived loss of control, and behavioral strategies. It also highlighted the value of considering speakers’ own experiences alongside speech characteristics that can be heard or observed by others, and how bringing these perspectives together may contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of stuttering and cluttering.

The anniversary provided a valuable opportunity to connect research with the perspectives of people with lived experience, clinicians, and the wider stuttering and cluttering community.
